Dans le cadre de l'atelier de conception architecturale destiné aux étudiant.e.s en 4ème année d'Architecture et d'ingénierie (AI4), intitulé "hétérotopies climatiques", et dans le cadre du MOOC (Cours en ligne ouvert et massif) e-CREHA (Éducation pour le patrimoine architectural européen résilient au climat), la spécialité architecture de l'INSA Strasbourg a l'honneur d'accueillir Tom Mays et Ivan Solano, deux compositeurs de renommée internationale et enseignants-chercheurs au Conservatoire de Strasbourg et à la HEAR (Haute école des arts du Rhin), le vendredi 12 avril 2024.

Dans le cadre du continuum de colloques et de séminaires thématiques connu sous l’appellation « Aetherotopias », cette journée exploratoire vise à engager une réflexion en profondeur sur la quintessence de la composition artistique, qu’elle se déploie dans l’arène spatiale ou dans celle de la musique et du son. Lazaros Mavromatidis, Tom Mays et Ivan Solano  seront conviés à se pencher sur une question fondamentale : quel est le rôle dévolu au compositeur – qu’il soit musicien ou architecte – en tant que créateur ?

Cette interrogation constituera le point nodal duquel émanera une analyse comparative des éléments formels inhérents à la pratique artistique, notamment le rythme, le temps, le motif et l’espace, tissant ainsi des parallèles entre les métiers de la musique et de l’architecture.

Cette démarche exploratoire systématique  incitera à approfondir les concepts fondamentaux d’invention, d’imagination, d’inspiration, de culture et de discernement, tout en scrutant attentivement les dynamiques d’organisation et de désorganisation intrinsèques à ces processus créatifs. En dernier lieu, une attention particulière sera portée à l’exploration de l’opposition conceptuelle entre le royaume de la nécessité, assujetti aux contraintes matérielles et pragmatiques, et le royaume de la liberté, où éclosent les idées et les aspirations les plus hardies.

In the framework of the architectural design studio  for 4th-year students in Architecture and engineering (AI4), entitled « climatic heterotopias, » and within the scope of the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) e-CREHA (Education for resilient european architectural heritage to climate), the architecture specialty  of INSA Strasbourg has the honor of welcoming Tom Mays and Ivan Solano, two internationally renowned composers and researchers at the Strasbourg conservatoire and the Haute école des arts du Rhin (HEAR), on Friday, April 12, 2024.

As part of the continuum of thematic conferences and seminars known as « Aetherotopias, » this exploratory day aims to engage in a profound reflection on the essence of artistic composition, whether it unfolds in spatial or musical and sonic realms. Lazaros Mavromatidis, Tom Mays, and Ivan Solano will delve into a fundamental question: what is the role of the composer – be they musician or architect – as a creator?

This inquiry will serve as the focal point from which a comparative analysis of formal elements inherent to artistic practice will emanate, including rhythm, time, motif, and space, thereby weaving parallels between the fields of music and architecture. This systematic exploratory approach will encourage a deepening of fundamental concepts such as invention, imagination, inspiration, culture, and discernment, while carefully scrutinizing the dynamics of organization and disorganization intrinsic to these creative processes. Lastly, particular attention will be devoted to exploring the conceptual opposition between the realm of necessity, bound by material and pragmatic contingencies, and the realm of freedom, where the boldest ideas and aspirations flourish.
